DISPELLING  MYTHS ABOUT HYPNOSIS

Many people seem to know more about what Hypnosis is NOT, rather that what it is.  So, what is Hypnosis NOT?

Hypnosis is not sleep or unconsciousness.

Hypnosis is the state just between waking and sleeping, like the bridge connecting the two. We are there at least twice each day – on our way up in the morning and on our way back to sleep at night. Brain wave researchers have compared Hypnosis to the Alpha/Theta state, similar to that of meditation.

Hypnosis is not loss of control or weakening of the will.

All Hypnosis is really Self-Hypnosis. You cannot be hypnotized without your consent. You are always in full control, and you are aware of what is going on. Hypnosis helps you let go of some of the restrictive control you may naturally impose upon yourself. As a result, you actually gain control. You will never accept any suggestion in Hypnosis that you would not ordinarily approve of. And . . . nobody doesn’t come out of Hypnosis!

Hypnosis is not dangerous.

Hypnosis doesn’t do anything to you. It produces no physiological changes other than those produced naturally by relaxation, all of which are very good for you. Hypnosis poses no dangers when practiced by ethical and qualified professionals.

Hypnosis is not supernatural or mysterious.

Hypnosis is a natural state that people slip in and out of spontaneously every day, usually without being aware of it. Whenever you are giving attention more and more to one thing to the exclusion of others, you are experiencing Hypnosis. When you are engrossed in a good book or movie, daydreaming or staring, you are experiencing Hypnosis.

Hypnosis is not magic or trickery.

All hypnotic accomplishments happen in strict accordance with natural laws. The results often seem miraculous and magical because they can occur so rapidly in comparison with other methods of change.

Well, what is it then?   Hypnosis is Selective Concentration.

You decide what is to absorb all of your attention, and then you concentrate on it to the exclusion of everything else until you make it a reality in your mind. Anything your mind can conceive and believe, you can achieve. The trick is believing it. Hypnosis helps you believe it, to record the idea directly in the subconscious part of your mind, bypassing all critical judgment and interference.

Hypnosis won’t make you into something or someone you are not, but it will help something that is already there be realized. Hypnosis frees you up to use more of the potential you already have.

How can one use Hypnosis?

You are limited only by your imagination. Common applications include: managing stress, managing weight, stopping smoking, enhancing performance (sports, arts, speaking, sex, …), improving concentration and memory, achieving prosperity, enhancing awareness, releasing creativity – all that and more. Hypnosis is not a panacea. It is a tool, which helps you to help yourself. It is a learned skill, which becomes more effective the more you use it. Hypnosis becomes second nature, and you will want to use it every day of your life.

How does it feel to be hypnotized?

ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!!
